Tablet Press
Course Description:

This Tablet Press Operation Training Course is designed as a one day, two day and multi day in house program. This course will provide the basic knowledge needed to understand the fundamentals running a tablet press: Understanding nomenclature, how a tablet press works, the roll of Tooling and the importance of component part inspections. Understanding all the machine functions and the effect that they have on making a good tablet. Complete with workshops and hands on equipment demonstrations. Each participant will understand how a tablet press works, how to solve capping, picking and sticking and other common tablet defects. The operator will be required to make changes during machine operation. A placebo granulation is recommended, as we will operate in and out of required specification. Advanced operation will be continued in the two & multi day session's in-depth look at a tablet press - machine set-up, operation and cleaning. We will focus on set-up techniques and trouble shooting of common problems such as products flowability, weigh& hardness control as well as common tablet defects including capping, laminating, picking & sticking and many other common defects.

Who Should Attend:
This course is open to all who want to attend the classroom portion of the day and the hands-on session will be limited only by the space to work with the individuals wishing to complete the hands on session. We suggest that Press Operators, Leads and Supervisors, QA, R&D and Technical service people attend.

Example Agenda:

DAY ONE (8:30am - 4:00pm)

  • Classroom presentation, open to all who wish to attend, includes training manual
  • Analyze machine condition
  • General overview of proper set procedures
  • Define mechanical set up requirements - how the machines work
  • Set up of cams
  • Proper die installation and double checking for torque settings
  • Punch installation and Lubrication and importance of inspection
  • Upper punch entrance for Main & Precompression

DAY TWO (8:00am - 4:00pm)

  • Proper Feeder setup procedures, leveling, don't switch sides, don't over tighten, and listen for scrapes
  • Powder flow, feeder speeds, yields and dust collection
  • Make tablets: get weight, thickness and hardness
  • Increase speed until weights are out of control - stop press and discuss limitations of granulations
